In an historical event, three music-based collecting bodies at a joint Press Conference announced their certification as Licensing Bodies under the Copyright Act 1987 by the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO), an agency under the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism today.

Under the new Copyright (Amendment) Act 2012 and Copyright (Licensing Body) Regulations 2012, the certified licensing bodies are Music Authors’ Copyright Protection (MACP) Berhad, Public Performance Malaysia Sdn Bhd (PPM) and Recording Performers Malaysia Berhad (RPM).

The Chairpersons of the 3 Licensing Bodies, Pn Habsah Hassan (MACP), Mr Adrian Lim (PPM) and Dato Sheila Majid (RPM) thanked the Government of Malaysia and MyIPO for their support and recognition.

Pn Habsah said that the recognition will encourage MACP to work harder for more revenue to be distributed to the songwriters and music publishers who remained united under MACP for over 23 years.

MACP was the first body to be certified as a Licensing Body in September 2012.
